An eye examination takes about 25-30 minutes and includes a review of any visual problems you may be having together with any general medical history that may affect the eyes and vision. We will carry out a thorough examination of the inside and outside of the eye to check for disease and, where appropriate, check the pressure inside the eye to test for glaucoma.

We have the latest computerised test chart technology to ensure that any spectacles you require are prescribed as accurately as possible.

The consulting room is also equipped with a computerised visual field analyser which tests peripheral vision – an important indicator of eye conditions such as glaucoma as well as general medical conditions such as stroke and diabetes. This equipment meets the requirements of the DVLA Medical Branch for testing of drivers’ vision and we are on the DVLA’s approved list for this service.

A full eye examination is generally recommended at least every two years (and more frequently for some categories of patient such as diabetics and the elderly), whether or not you are experiencing problems. There have been numerous cases of sight and even lives being saved through a simple routine eye test.
